Botox

Nonsurgical BOTOX Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is an aesthetic treatment that temporarily reduces facial lines caused by normal muscle activity such as smiling or frowning. It stands alone as the only such treatment approved by the (FDA). It works be relaxing muscle movement as nerve impulses to those muscles are blocked. The injected muscles can’t contract and lines relax and smooth naturally.

Clinical trials showed almost 90% of adults rated the improvement in the appearance of frown lines between their eye brows as better a full month after treatment. Results vary from person to person and some people reported improvement even after 4 months. One treatment takes just a few minutes and within days there’s a noticeable improvement in moderate to severe frown lines between the brows, which can last up to 4 months.

While individual results vary, there is no recovery time. You can return to normal activity immediately. Simply a few gentle, injections directly into the muscles that cause those frown lines between the brows.  No anesthesia is required, the area will be numbed and a cold compress or anesthetic cream applied before injections begin. Minimal and brief stinging is the only discomfort.

The Migraine Trust says Botox can be a safe and effective preventative treatment to assist people with  migraine manage their migraine and improve the quality of life.

Excessive Sweating

Botulinum toxin is a treatment option for excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis. It blocks signals that the brain sends to sweat glands.

Botox injections are made directly in affected areas, such as the armpits, hands, feet or face. The procedure can last up to eight months.

Urinary Incontinence

Overactive bladder plagues  many people (usually women- over 40). It is a urinary problem whose symptoms include having to urinate often (frequency), excessive need to get up during  the night to use the bathroom (nocturia).

A 2012 study published in the Journal of European Urology found that injecting botulinum toxin A (Botox) into the wall of the bladder is an effective way of treating the debilitating condition in which people have a sudden urge to pass urine. So Botox injections are one option for treating this condition when other treatments have not been effective.

The study group saw the number of times that they had symptoms fall from six to less than one a day. The benefits start to wear off after around six months.

MS and Muscle Spasms

Botulinum toxin is used to decrease spasticity related to multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions. Botox injections may help stop muscles contracting or twitching when the person doesn’t want them to.

Tennis elbow

A botulinum toxin injection may reduce the pain from tennis elbow.

Bell’s palsy

Bell’s palsy causes  drooping of one side of a person’s face due to nerve problems. The effect usually goes after some months. However, Botox injections may be used in long-term Bell’s palsy to relax muscles that have become tight or to help reduce unwanted muscle movements or twitching.

Squint

With strabismus, also known as crossed eyes or a squint, the eyes don’t look towards an object together. Botox may be injected into one of the eye muscles as a treatment option, usually if a squint develops rapidly without an obvious cause. The injection weakens the injected muscle for a period of time, which lets the eyes realign themselves.
